Never in a million years

It's June (my Birthday month!) and I am now 59 years on this earth, old. I thought I might "close the loop" so to speak and update the ether on what has transpired in my little source material person (Dora). Quite a bit has happened...since it's been about 5 years since I last posted, but...here are the high-points:

Dora married a high-school friend who happens to serve in the US Air Force. They have been stationed in Virginia where he works at Langley Air Force Base. Unfortunately, a Bachelors Degree (which she received with a Summa Cum Laude distinction) in Psychology was not really marketable and thus, she struggled to find work which challenged her...and looked good on a resume'. She tried a stint at a Veterinarian's office but...Vet tech was not really all that fulfilling. Then, she took a long shot. Since she was a lead singer in her church Praise and Worship band, she was acquainted with an individual who worked at NASA Langley Research Center. She waited for an opening and found it! Hired as the Administrative Assistant to the CFO she worked there for about 2 years and loved every moment of it...but...higher education continued its siren call in her heart.

She needed a way to pay, and a way to get somewhere she could enroll so, somehow, she came up with the idea to join the Air Force, as a civilian, and become an officer. Yup. She wanted to skip the whole enlisted Airman thing and just go for it so...after 2 years of waiting and producing the documentation, testing, etc...she was selected about a year ago to attend Officer Training School in Alabama at Maxwell Air Force Base. The wait was long but, she was finally assured her place.

Now, any military training is rigorous and old Dad here became increasingly nervous that this was going to be super difficult for her. She didn't seem so fearful however and, this past April, she entered OTS. She graduated last week, Thursday to be exact, as a Second Lieutenant in the US Air and Space Force. Thus, the "never in a million years" title. She has only one relative in the military, a paternal great grandfather who died in World War II WAY before I was born. But...that's my kid.

Now, she is beginning a 6 or so month assignment in California at Vandenburg Air Force Base which will train her for her chosen career path for the next 4 to 6 years. Along the way, I am sure she will endeavor to get her Master's degree through the Air Force...which is a thing. Knowing her...I am sure she will succeed.

Again...not sure where this kid came from...but I sure am honored to call her my daughter. Anyway...thought this might be a good loop close, and evidence that indeed, she deserved every word I have written about her.

Way To Go Princess! As I have always told you, you are pretty Awesome!
